Wooden Boats And Banana Cream Cake: The History of Vestad Boat Works

During the 1950’s through the 1970’s, the wooden boat building industry was booming on the coast of British Columbia, Canada. This book explores one boat building family’s history, their triumphs and their challenges. Through the eyes of Ole Vestad, one of British Columbia’s wooden boat builder legends, we dive into the history of the Vestad Boat Works and the Vestad Family. Known for their high-quality workmanship, the Vestad boats can still be spotted on the coast of BC.

Alanna J. Hanson is a long-time friend of Trevor Vestad’s. She spent her childhood summers in Earls Cove and Madeira Park on the sunshine coast and the ocean has always been close to her heart. A recent graduate of The Writers Studio at Simon Fraser University, she lives in Prince George, British Columbia.

Trevor Vestad was raised in Madeira Park on the beautiful sunshine coast of British Columbia. The grandson of Ole Vestad, he spent his childhood playing in the very boatshed in which the Vestad boats were built. He currently lives in Sexsmith, Alberta and dreams of returning to the ocean.
